HOW TO MAKE ROADSIDE FURNITURE FABULOUS - tv cabinet

I did name this blog because
of my love for working with wood. And
even more I prefer saving
wood furniture from the landfill. Come
and see how I used two roadside finds
to create one fabulous piece of furniture.

ROPE HANDLES - tutorial

Time for the tutorial on the big nautical rope handles I used on my beach dresser. They work really well
on these drawers and look incredible. It took some time to find the rope I wanted to use but in the end
I nailed it.

BIG SOFT ROPE HANDLES - nautical beach dresser

I'm over the moon in love with this project. I finally got to create some big fat nautical rope handles on a set of drawers.

SEASIDE BEACH FURNITURE

This dresser is a great example of how you can make a few simple changes to use it
in your new seaside décor.

The original dresser was in great shape just very boring.

To start the seaside theme I cut and added a rope detail on the bottom front.
You see rope everywhere on boats and docks.

Vintage brass is a great feature use on seaside themed furniture. Brass doesn't rust and corrode like
other metal does in the salty air of the coast, so it is used all over marinas. After painting this
dresser in a blue and then a white wash I sanded the lock plates to show them off the brass.

The original dresser came with gold handles but the elaborate vintage brass Chippendales
I chose to use in their place are the perfect touch on these glossy waxed drawers.

The last piece that finished the look is the natural top, clear coated for protection

Hope this helps you with some of your beach decorating.

JEWELRY FOR YOUR FURNITURE- hardware

These are some great examples of the statement
the right hardware can make.

Look at the selection of hardware I found at the Hobby Lobby.
If I stamp my feet long enough do you think we could get one here in BC?

Here are just 2 drawers of furniture knobs
and handles I've hoarded over time.

This photo was taken at a Flea market in Florida.
All this lady sold was vintage hardware ..... bestill my heart.

The rustic appeal these large handles added to
this red dresser couldn't be imagined any other way.

This yellow dresser wouldn't be so happy with out
the brilliant punch the french white hardware adds.

The correct vintage feel was found when these
pulls were added to this aqua wash stand.

A reminder of heavy brass fittings on grand ocean liners
of the past made the travel theme of this dresser complete.

What are they called?
Bail Pull
Bin Pull
Bow Handle
Drop Pull
Oval Plate Pull
Ring Pull

A great place to find reproduction hardware here in BC is
You can shop on line or in store.
