HOW TO PAINT A SHABBY CHIC WHITE DRESSER - annie sloan chalk paint

I like painting furniture in
shabby chic whites and I like
creating silky smooth finishes.
Let me share six tips on how I
do this while using a paint brush.

A FANCY STORAGE BENCH

I only got so far with this bench before I had to put it on hold. The tea house fabric I wanted was out
of stock and would take 4 - 6 weeks before I could get my hands on. It is an extra heavy upholstery
fabric and looks so good with white distressed furniture. Well it finally arrived and the bench got
finished. The drawer fronts are all decorative but there is a hinged lid with tons of open storage
inside. It is Canadian made in Quebec and comes with a key and lock.

This bench was painted with ASCP Pure white and Old white. The original finished had a heavy
graining and I took advantage of it with the distressing. I used a 220 grit sand paper and made sure
to also sand all the edges.

Hope this inspires you!

THIS LADY KNOWS WHAT SHE'S DOIN - apothecary cabinet

I'm Here, I'm Here!
Let the bells ring out and the banners fly.
I've had an extreme makeover and I'm looking marvelous.

We had a long road together getting each element finished just right.
Sometimes I just didn't understand her vision and wouldn't cooperate with what she wanted.

It was a vision of beauty.

I hear that next time she's gonna show more pictures
of how we created this look together.

here is the link to see more about this transformation:

I started with this staring back at me

After some work I had these staring back at me.
Wouldn't it be great if that's all I had to do or maybe
just wiggle my nose and magically it all happens.
I painted the cabinets a a medium blue then a light blue top coat.

The drawers were lined with a shimmery blue silver wallpaper and have chippy white butterfly swing handles on the front.

I also added graphics to the tops of each cabinet.
Each has an ornate wreath surrounding a butterfly and crown.

You can also find a side by side before and after pic here.

THINGS I FIND INSIDE FUNITURE - ladies french kneehole desk

Every now and then something unusual shows up inside my furniture projects.
Like these curtain rods below. Now when I say inside I don't mean in a drawer,
I mean behind the drawers inside the cabinet somewhere.

Really ... how do curtain rods get inside a dresser?
If you know don't tell me it was a retorical question.

I've found a few Aussie coins and recently a 1965 German Schilling.
I don't assume they will make me rich but they do add interest to the projects.

Another interesting find was the post card dated 1919

but more often then not it's just someones missing puzzle pieces,

their discarded matches, a forgotten key, and quite often old receipts.
This one is dated 1976 and it's from England.

They seem to be quite polite when
dealing with overdue accounts, it actually says
"Fearing your account has escaped your
notice, we venture to ask the favor of
a remittance within the course of a
few days"

That was awfully nice of them!

Well now back to the project of the day ...

I know a few of you might be getting excited with these sneaky partial pictures,
but please don't get overwhelmed there is bad news coming.

A drawer that has dove tails on the back as well as the front.
Amazing what several hundreds of dollars can buy you huh?

Yes I spent a great deal more than I am use to on this one, but it's worth every penny in the end.

She even had a couple of surprises inside for me to find.

2 Golden Key Furniture Keys
I'm delighted with that little find, but now the trick will be to find a lock they will open.

Now for the bad news ...

This magnificent, over the top, gorgeous french desk (deep breath)
is already spoken for, but you can see a side by side before and after pic here.
I know that doesn't make up for it, I'm a bad bad person for teasing you.

ITALIAN RENAISSANCE - gramophone cabinet makeover

This is a unique piece compared to today's style of furniture, and I'm sure most didn't see potential in it the way it was found at the auction. It did have a makers mark though so we could do some research on it.
