SPRING DECOR WITH OUR BENCH - custom built storage

Spring is upon us and in a few short days it will be my birthday. I have taken some time this week to clean and fluff my decor. One piece of furniture that has not got the attention it deserves is a storage bench I custom designed and built using reclaimed furniture.

LINING FURNITURE - wallpaper, fabric, or paint

Sometimes it can be just as fun to redo and enjoy the inside of your furniture project just as much as the outside. This is a compilation of some of my favorite interiors I have done.

HOW TO GET THAT PRETTY TURQUOISE LOOK - paint layering

Annie Sloan Chalk paint is perfect
for creating distressed and layered
finishes so I used it when I wanted
to create a layered color effect on a
thrift store jewelry box.

BUILDING A SMALL SPACE WORKSTATION - gold dipped and turquoise

Do you need a dedicated work place but live in a small space with little extra room? I have built a convertible workstation for exactly that, small space living. I used thrifted items and transformed them into beautiful decor.

BEFORE AND AFTERS OF YARD SALE FURNITURE

We had a yard sale to clear out some extra furniture pieces. A few
kind people sent photos to us showing the
makeovers they performed on the treasured pieces they found.

a bench from a pair of chairs
I'm happy to offer a tip or two on how I did mine.

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL- my french mirror

I really do love mirrors, I have always had a large number
of them in my home. I think it is an affordable way to decorate
and easy for many people to do. Art can be tricky but anyone
can hang a mirror. My french trumeau mirror has to be
my favorite of all time. I always smile when I look at it, I
fiercely protect it when anything big is moving near it,
and when it had no place to hang I made sure there was
somewhere to keep it safe.

KITCHEN REVEAL - our home tour

Over the last little while I have rediscovered a few areas in our home and the kitchen is one of the spots I have focused on. I have also never really done a true reveal on this room so it's about time. It all started with a new set of shelves and spilled over to refinishing the fridge and even GG's coffee station got a makeover. I'm super happy with the new look and now it's time to share our little piece of heaven with you.

CHRISTMAS DECOR 2015 - vignettes

Over the last while we have
had one wind storm after
another and as a result
there have been a ton of
power and utility outages
all over the area. We have
endured a few of these
outages and I find myself ..

SPRING FLING II - annie sloan florence chalk paint

Once upon a time I painted a dresser
light turquoise, white, & green,
and named it the SPRING FLING
dresser. The color combination was
extremely popular and I was challenged
to recreate another dresser with a
complimentary look.

MINI CLOSET REVEAL - graphic transfer

Our good friends at Brick and Mortar Living asked if I wanted to try using their butcher paper for a graphic transfer project. I was happy to try it out.

SEASIDE BEACH FURNITURE

This dresser is a great example of how you can make a few simple changes to use it
in your new seaside décor.

The original dresser was in great shape just very boring.

To start the seaside theme I cut and added a rope detail on the bottom front.
You see rope everywhere on boats and docks.

Vintage brass is a great feature use on seaside themed furniture. Brass doesn't rust and corrode like
other metal does in the salty air of the coast, so it is used all over marinas. After painting this
dresser in a blue and then a white wash I sanded the lock plates to show them off the brass.

The original dresser came with gold handles but the elaborate vintage brass Chippendales
I chose to use in their place are the perfect touch on these glossy waxed drawers.

The last piece that finished the look is the natural top, clear coated for protection

Hope this helps you with some of your beach decorating.

FIXING DRAWER STOPS - antique dresser drawers

This dresser was missing all of it's drawer stops. This meant the drawers would push too far inside the body.

PAINTING A TWO COLOR DRESSER - blue and white

I love what I do and sometimes I'm able to help out a friend in the process. This dresser was on someone else's project list but things happened and it got added to mine. Let me share how I painted her in two different Annie Sloan colors.

SPRING FLING DRESSER

This dresser was named the Spring Fling because of the soft colors used to finish it and it was spring time when I was painting it. It was originally a road side find.

ALTERNATIVE TO DARK STAINED TOP - color layering paint with ASCP

I wanted to create a nice rich
dark stained top on this project
but I would need to strip it first.
I can only strip furniture outdoors,
and it was the wrong time of year
to do this work so I came up with
an alternative plan.

GENEROSITY, HARD WORK, and PROVENCE

You hear the stories of ppl donating time or money to a good cause and the perception is they will get it back two fold. Pay it forward is what we call it these days, and this is my story of paying it forward and my perception of getting it back.

THE THRIFT STORE PRICING GURU

When you are looking to buy a pair of
something second hand they can be fairly
expensive. Especially with nightstands,
ppl want pairs and the pricing guru in the
back of the thrift store knows it. Well
consider buying single nightstands at a
fraction of the cost and paired them
together. The pricing guru also knows
single nightstands take much longer to sell.
