ARM CHAIR UPHOLSTERY - step by step how I did it

I created this chair for a charity event we have locally to support the Christmas Bureau. I also photographed each
step to offer some guidance to others who want to try it themselves.

A MAN, A KNIFE, AND THE ER!

My week has just started and I'm stacked high with extra things to do.

Some of you already know that Sunday night George
had a bad accident in the kitchen making dinner.
I had to rush him to the ER for an 8 1/2 hour stay to get 7 stitches
to sew up an extremely deep slash to his finger.

This is where the extras come in for me because his hand will be
out of commission for a week or two I get to do extra house work
and serve his every ice cream request.

Trust me I do not mind because I love this man so much,
however I have my Auction chair for Charity that needs to be done this week.

I have to gather advertising and deliver the chair to the Glam It Up studio by Friday.
I have all the etsy stock to continue on my own.

I also have 2 dressers half finished but not sure when I can get back to them.

One in red and one in blue.

On top of everything I have a super giveaway for my local followers that I will tell you all about tomorrow.

And finally I wanted to let you know in all this chaos we have started our very own Pinterest Page.
It is your one stop inspirational spot for furniture re purposing and refinishing based on
both this blog and firstfinds hardware.

NOTE: George was making pork loin, mashed potatoes,
carrots and glazed onion the night of the accident.
I came back home finished cooking and tupperwared his dinner to him in the hospital.

HOW TO GET RID OF THE SMELL IN WOOD - turquoise chairs and charity results

Last weeks Charity Auction was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who came out to attend the event. The evening brought over $4000 in donations for the Langley Christmas Bureau. This chair went up for live auction and made $250 on it's own.

UNION JACK CHAIR - painted upholstery

It has been quite awhile since I last saw my Silver Union Jack chair I created for a charity
auction. A local business owner bought it for her hubby, and at a decent price for the charity.
Lucky me I have wrangled a visit several hours away to seeing the chair again in it's new home.

SPRAY PAINTING A WOOD CHAIR - turquoise wood chair

The plan for this chair was to donate him to a charity auction makeover event, but the description of eligibility was to also have a fabric seat. Needless to say he didn't qualify and had to stay with me for a makeover of my choosing.

RECYCLING DINING CHAIR LEGS - shabby chic bedside tables

There are so many unused and unwanted
dining chairs out there. Every thrift store
and charity shop I go to have a selection.
Most people have a chair or two in their
garage. There are some great up-cycle
projects out there already on Pinterest
and I would like to add one more to the
list with the help of Annie Sloan Chalk
Paint.

HOW FAR DOES ANNIE SLOAN GO - red dresser

After the hustle and bustle of working with my Chair for Charity, getting it to the photographer early, and George's accident and ER visit, I have finally finished one of the dressers I previously started. Isn't this color amazing, the knobs made me do it! I have been wanting to show you how far Annie Sloan Chalk Paint can really go.

ANNIE SLOAN & SUNFLOWER BEDSIDE TABLES - white nightstands

I'm always in the market for a piece of furniture that has been abused. Not ever DIY'er likes to repair
items or are comfortable with working with damage. In this case my night stand had quite a rough
surface from daily wear and tear. When you work with imperfections and want a vintage look
highlight them, sand them more, help them stand out. That is where the character starts to show.

It is hard for each of us to see it as amazing because it is our own work. We were taught through out
our lives to color inside the lines yet today we covet those beautifully aged pieces be it authentic
age or reproduced by hand. It is all about breaking the rules.

Breaking the rules was the first thing I heard Annie Sloan talking about while she was on stage today
at the Vancouver Home & Design show. We headed down town to meet up with the local stockist
and chat with Annie and hubby David while they are visiting beautiful British Columbia.

This chair Annie is sitting in was created for this weeks (Oct 24th) Chairs for Charity Auction. Like
the creators using this colorful Annie Sloan fabric, I had fun working with the bright colors of
the green jars I painted and sunflowers I used in my photo shoot so I ended up naming them
 "SUNFLOWER BEDSIDES"

I added a cute vintage pair of cabriolet legs to the fronts of each cabinet. The basket where I keep
legs I find is getting very thinned out, I wasn't even sure I had these, but alas they were the perfect fit!!

BLACK AND WHITE TOILE - shabby chic dining chairs

4 tired 70's dining chairs came to me via Uncle Ronnie.
While I was working on a different set of chairs all propped up in the driveway
he stopped in to let me know there was 4 more chairs that needed my help just down the road.
