I have given many furniture projects a new
look by adding ornate details to boring flat
kick plates. The tools I use for this are a
pencil, a jigsaw, a hammer, finishing nails,
and an applique.
With the pencil I traced the edge of the appliques onto the flat kick plate of this nightstand.
Then with my jigsaw I cut away some of the wood to match the shape of the applique.

Depending on what the applique is made of attaching them can be different.
The ones in the photo above are metal so they were drilled and nailed.
Wood appliques can be glued and clamped or nailed.
