VINTAGE VANITY TURN EUROPEAN DESK - working with what you have

Some of you know we host fairly good and definitely fun yard sales even in the RAIN! This year we ran out of time and stuff to sell. So I thought I would share an old yard sale makeover with you to help makeup for it.

NO PAINTING FOR U - chippy yellow table

Sitting all alone at a church sale I couldn't resist this little table,

with it's arborite top and glossy thick paint cover up.

I started by scrapping and peeling all the white paint and dirt off.

That's when I found the original pale yellow paint underneath.

I removed the arborite and belt sanded the top smooth,

then moved to the body sanding every inch of the soft yellow paint,

before adding a stain wash.

The entire table got a coat of  walnut gel stain before it was polish back.

See how the yellow and the wood stand out now.

It's finished with wipe on poly and wax.

 

HIDDY HO NEIGHBOR - games tables

This wonderful pair of tables were bought from the neighbor's barn sale.

One bottom self was broke but quickly repaired with new dowels and glue.

I loved the detail on the top and wanted to emphasize it with the new look.

Being able to put them together to make one round table or separately against the wall,

they are very handy just about anywhere you want to use them.

 There were stained with a dark walnut and painted in a creamy white before distressing and waxing.

I really enjoyed this project

because I was able to take each table completely

apart to work on.

I think they would be great bedside tables for a spare room.

 

BLACK DRESSER with A SHINE

 

It was bad ....

Don't you just feel itchy when you look at it.

 Peeling veneer, sticky stuff, and mismatched hardware.

 

The drawers originally had a pattern on in the veneer,

I didn't want to loose this when painting it so I taped off the areas

then alterenated where I applied a glossy clearcoat.

 

 A set of silver finished hardware was added.

 

 

I protected the beautiful wood surface with 4 layers of clearcoat.
