YELLOW FRENCH COUNTRY BED FRAME - painting an antique

Is your style French Country, more specifically vibrant yellows paired with blues? Does sunshine yellow make you smile like it does for me? If so this project maybe  for you.

Here is a close up shot of the distressing I did on this bed
frame. It's so French Country just like blue and yellow toile fabric.

BACKGROUND
Here are some before pictures of this project. The frame had
been painted in a color very similar to AS Provence blue. We
don't know as it was found this way. Unfortunately it was a
very bad paint job with dried runs and sideways drips all
over and now it was chipping really bad. I had to remove as
much of the loose paint as possible before I could think
about moving forward with a new color for a makeover.

COLOR CHOICE
The plan was to use the blue and have it show through when
the top color was distressed. White was considered but the
final choice was going to be a vintage yellow. I started with
AS Arles but it was too orange. So I custom mixed a vibrant
yellow using AS Original and a strong acrylic yellow paint
color and sprayed the frame outside.

DISTRESSING
The next step was to meticulously distress (many hour of
hand sanding) all the imperfections from the original layer
of paint to create an aged and smoother finish.

JOB EXECUTION
Painting a bed frame with this much wood turnings is not for
the faint of heart. It takes a lot of time and dedications to get
the job executed well. That is probably why the last paint job
was so bad. I did the project in stages, letting the paint cure
before distressing and finally waxing.

BUFFED TO SHINE
I used AS clear wax. When buffing pieces like this you get to
take a nice fluffy rag and wrap it around each turning and
pull back and forth creating the most amazing shine.
The shine comes from the heat of the friction melting the
wax. Buffing wax is not about applying a lot of pressure
