DARK WAXED WOOD TOP - white bedside cabinets

My first experience using wax wasn't on
furniture but polishing my Sunday dress
shoes. As I got older I learned to wax and
buff cars. As a young adult setting up
house I learn to wax and polish wood
furniture. Now most days I wax paint but
for this project I used Annie Sloan Dark
wax a little differently.

ART DECO TURNED SHAKER - vancouver subway art dresser

How to take an Art Deco Dresser and give it a Shaker Style.

One thing that dates art deco furniture is the flush and rounded tops.

So I removed the original top and replaced it with a nice fresh pine board cut to size.

With some walnut stain, wax, and my new gloves we were off to the races.

Having a curvy kick at the bottom is common in a lot of furniture
but I removed this one to get straighter lines and offer a masculine feel.

Two final steps to help achieve the look was to add the vintage metal wheels
and simple metal knobs down both sides of the drawers.

And that's how you get a shaker look from an Art Deco Dresser.

More beauty pics can be seen on yesterday's post

Next time I'll share how I did my lettering and finish on the drawers.

VANCOUVER ART - subway art tall dresser

I've been wanting to do a true tall boy subway dresser for some time.

And recently a couple of my fellow blog ladies have inspired me to get moving on that project.

First up is Bliss @ Bliss Ranch with her Kodak Dresser.

And secondly is Suzan @ Simply Vintageous

My main inspiration started with this fabulous shaker style tallboy @ Lindauer Designs

But I had to do it in the VANCOUVER style,
and add what I'm calling my signature typo.

Only those who know Vancouver should be able to find the spelling mix-up,
but for the most part you read it the way you are suppose to.

Next time I'll share how I transformed this mid century look into a shaker style,
in a few steps.

Let me know if you see the typo ...

ARTICLES DE PARIS GRAPHIC ON A DRESSER - french furniture makeover

During an online craft competition was running I would stop in to see all the project each week to cast a vote. The first week brought many diy projects using graphics from The Graphics Fairy. This inspired me to create the ARTICLES DE PARIS DRESSER.

MORE FURNITURE 4 SIS - regency dining table

There was nothing really nasty about the regnecy table we found a few weeks back,
so no before photo was taken.

I did have to glue and clamp some parts of the base that had loosened over time,

and replace some of the nails holding the decorative metal claw feet in place.

The table top was almost void of the original finish so hand sanding just took time.

I restained the top and both pedestals with my new favorite stain, Varathane's KONA.

This color called KONA is so rich and dark looking I can't get enough of it.

Several coats of wipe on poly were applied before a final waxing to soften the feel.

AND FINALLY ....

I thought I would share a pic of some crazy little worker bees I had visit me yesterday.

The workshop we had here yesterday was soooo much fun and the diversity of ladies made
conversation amazing.
I know everyone wants to see what they worked on and hear them dish all about me
but I have to get some things finished and sort out pics first.

SO STAY TUNED ...
