DIY FRENCH HEADBOARD - combining items

Every now and then I get an itch, a nagging desire to change something in the house. I start to focus on it, maybe something isn't working right for us or the look of something is bothering me. GG has even given it a name ...

"AWEFULIZING" The wheels start to turn in my head, and

over the years he has learned to recognize it. As soon as he

 sees it, he tells me to stop awfulizing. The truth is if I didn't

 awfulize over it I would not be able to create. It's part of my

 process, it's the main component to how I do what it is I do.

Now that brings me to our headboard. I always wanted a

 tufted headboard, one stop into Sleep Country way back

 when and I bought one. We both like it but it also lacked my

 personal touch or something unique to us, which has

always bothered me.

Our updated French #headboard. Tufted Fabric part is from @sleepcountrycan and hung on the wall with a #frenchCleat - Carved #woodwork is repurposed from a broken #armoire and painted with #AnnieSloanChalkPaint - #SheerCurtain panels 36" long from the #thriftstore - #BedCrown was a #RoadsideTreasure that is made of pine, originally a window valance box.

Keeping a black piece of furniture dust free is as hard as getting a black paint job to look good. It takes a lot of time and never feels like it is done.

I STOLE THE NEIGHBORS FLOWERS - cut hydrangeas

While doing a simple errand yesterday I passed by a couple Hydrangea bushes.

George favors them in blue so I stopped to get him some.

He does bring me flowers on occasion.

UPDATE from yesterday.....

My compressor couldn't get over 60 psi anymore so she's had to be retired.
Last night we found her bigger sister with the help of the great ppl of Canadian Tire - White Rock,
and I put her to work this afternoon.

Here is the custom headboard all done mentioned in yesterday's post.

She's heading to a mountain retreat.

DEAD COMPRESSOR - renate's headboard

It all started with this 70's oak headboard.

Okay maybe I jumped the gun here, I suppose it really started with a drawing of a headboard.

A drawing with custom measurements.

So back to this headboard.

Every element of it was dismantled with a robertson driver.

Considering I had received such detailed measurements I had to wait for the right piece to come along.

Many of the pieces were cut to fit the new configuration.

The face sheilds were brought together.

Priming continued.

The legs were extended 2".

Extra bits were all brought together to fill out the height requested.

Some fancy had to be added.

In the form of wall candle holders I found at the second hand store.

They originally had baskets screwed on the front for the candle to sit in.

I removed the baskets and used the holes to attached them to the new headboard.

But alas I only got the primer coat finished before my compressor kicked the bucket.

So once the new compressor gets open and the final finish is applied, this is really

all you get to see.
