SANDING & REPAINTING A DRESSER - before Christmas

Christmas is coming, Christmas is coming! It is November 1 and in Canada our thanksgiving already happened in October. So we are heading straight for Christmas now ....

Which brings me to a little project I did for our
living room space and the upcoming holiday season.

Here is the before of a solid wood antique chest of drawers.
It was painted sometime ago in a pale paint color.

Someone come along and started to strip that paint off.
It appeared they lost steam and gave up because the piece
came to me still covered in dried crusty paint stripper.

I scrubbed it clean and sanded it smooth before repainting it.

I changed the handles and gave them a great aged look by painting them the same color
as the dresser and scrubbing the paint back a day later to look as if they were originals.

I brush painted the chest with one layer of Annie Sloan
Old Ochre and then I did one layer of ASCP Original mixed
with a little Chicago Grey. The edges were all distressed with
an 80 grit sand paper exposing the various layers underneath
all the way to the light wood color.

I adore this piece because it is very practical, has great
storage, and the original owner even painted the drawer
interiors with some of that super duty paint from the past
so every bit inside is washable.
