I'd like to share the work I've been doing on our front porch. Normally friends and family might get to see the results first but these days the only audience available to share with is on-line. #stayhome
THE BEFORE
West coast weather can do a real good job of rotting wood
and our front porch had its issues. The stair railings had
to be replaced for safety, so that was where I started.

THE ROOF
The edge of the metal roof was originally installed too close
to the exposed wood. This caused rain water to penetrate the
wood and eventually break it down. By the time we got to it, it
was completely rotten with fungus mushrooms growing out
of it. So we pulled the rot down and started the process of
extending the roof line a bit to create a better drip edge
which would also protect the porch and front door.

THE CURVE
I adore curves in design, curved windows and mirrors, the
curved arms of a chandelier, and of course arched door ways.
I grew up with 2 large curved archways in our tiny house so
maybe that's where it started. I created the curve using cut plywood.

THE SHINGLES
My vision always included shingles, shingles that would
eventually go grey with the sun but we are starting to rethink
the grey because the cedar color coordinates nicely with the
trailer's beige siding and that color isn't going to change
any time soon.

Next time I will share some of the smaller details.
