CRAYON REMOVER - ball n claw foot table

There was once this wonderful Ball n Claw Foot pedestal table,

that was once not so wonderful ...

I have been looking for just the right top to match up to this handsome pedestal.
Low and behold along came this thick pine slab, covered in pencil and crayon.
Unfortunately this magnificent art work had to be removed.

Plz keep in mind that this next tip works best for raw wood.

Acetone and fine woodworkers steel wool will easiely remove and clean the wood.
Acetone will also remove any finish you may have on your project so use it with caution.
AND USE IT OUT DOORS!

The top is in one solid piece that can be removed for transport and has a high gloss waxed shine.

The pedestal and four legs on this table are very thick and stately.

SPRAY PAINTING A GUINEA PIG - christine's table

This week I have been bouncing back and forth between 3 different tables.

This is the smallest of the bunch.

She's a cute little table but finicky on repairs.
One leg support had to be rebuilt, all the legs needed to be shimmed and screwed,
and the drawer had to be tightened and re-glued.

I even used her as a Guinea pig during my workshops.
Here is Karen about to attack!

She is going to be used as a coffee table in Christine's living space.

She was built with quarter sawn oak and now painted in a creamy white.

She looked so good in my space after the photo shoot
I let her stay dressed up for the evening.

I TURNED SPIDERMAN SHABBY CHIC - bathroom cabinet

A lot of patience, love and a bit of pixie dust went into creating
this tall bath cabinet.

SEASHELL and BURLAP LAMPS

I have had a question or 2 about the new look on these lamps.
It was a simple 5 minute change using burlap (left over from another project)
and white beach shells (found at a second hand store).

Cut the burlap into strips then fray the edges by pulling a couple of the threads from the sides.
The shells were hot glued on the center of the burlap strips, then wrapped around the shade.
I used a small dab of hot glued to secure the ends of the burlap together on the back side.

THE BIG JOB - buffet and hutch

Holey plate rail Batman, this hutch has 3 levels with a rail on each.

Doing large pieces like this are not very common for me,
I just don't have the space or back to pull it off.
I had my challenges starting this project 3 days before overhauling our bedroom living space.

It was solid, had a lot I could work with and could be used in so many different ways.

I could have just finished the bottom and used the top for parts but I liked the look of these
pieces together and knew together they would make an amazing show stopping statement.
AND THAT THEY DO!

The two pieces are painted in pure white, then I hand applied clear and dark wax
to the exterior to give it a antique white finish.

The interior was finished in clear wax leaving a cleaner bright finish.
The secret to getting the interior of cabinets painted well and waxed is to take the back panels off.
It is much easier to get into all the corners with both the paint and waxes,
and you can finish the back panels much nicer when laying down on a flat surface.

I removed the 2 middle doors and added a scalloped trim to the top frame.

LEARNING HOW TO WAX - white tall dresser

Our last workshop was another fun day with lots of projects, questions, answers,
and George's catered lunch.

We had a wonderfully sunny hot day and by the late
afternoon it was time to grab a bottle of water, pull up a chair, and a paint brush
to put some theory to the test.

We painted this antique oak mirror with ASCP Duck Egg blue and used some dark wax
to age and accent around the carved applique.

We started the day with drawer repairs, filling holes, and learning the ins and outs of
the paint sprayer. Then I let my ladies loose on a couple of my newly painted white chairs to
learn how to distress and be comfortable with it.

We also went through the steps needed to wax the textured surface of the chair backs
and how to get this silky soft and shiny smooth finish
using minwax natural furniture wax on this chest of drawers below.

I always lay out many projects at different stages for each of my workshops
and we generally only get to work with each for a short period of time,
leaving me with many things to sort out later.

The chairs are finished and now so is the dresser.

I reupholstered all the chair seats with new foam and a neutral fabric.
These are some comfy seats now!

Light distressing brought out the marvelous details on the dresser during waxing.

.

So the drawers are beautiful inside and out with all the decorative bits
and the eclectic mix of vintage french provincial handles.

MY BEDROOM PROJECT - shabby chic decorating

A JOB WELL DONE.
I've hung the chandelier, arranged the furniture, laid the carpets, and decorated the walls. I think our bedroom is almost done.
