HOW TO MAKE A MATCHING SET OF NIGHTSTANDS - his & hers

I adore the simple nature of farmhouse decorating. It allows us to combine individual pieces we love, creating together a cohesive result that is warm and desirable and most importantly comfortable to live in. A perfect example is these nightstands that did not match when I first brought them together.

They had similar shapes, both made of pine and
with untold amounts of history between the two. I created
a wonderful HIS & HERS pair by using legs, hardware,
and a paint finish to coordinate them into a great sets.

They have different insides and different lines on the outside,
the drawers move differently and are different sizes. All of
this is very much like the differences in the people that are
going to use each of these cabinets.

I bought one at a thrift store and found the second a few
weeks later at a yard sale. I painted them to match then
 started to add the details.
I installed a nice set of brand new legs to lift them up and
chose some Hepplewhite hardware for the drawers.

Then everything was painted to match using Annie Sloan
Pure White Chalk Paint. I cleared waxed after I edge
distressed with 180 grit sand paper.

Today's decorating trends steer us away from
having to feel like we need to purchase a set of all
matching furniture from a big box store.
