that turned into 8 hours of just wood
working repairs before any beautifying. I'm sharing each repair in different posts. Let's start with the next problem ....
MISSING PARTS
Many pieces of vintage furniture like this one were built with
a middle support running between the legs right in the
middle. This cabinet one has lost it's support along the way.
It was probably taken out to gain storage space for boxes or
baskets, but without something connecting the legs down
low the structure of the whole piece is compromised.

The back of this cabinet has lost one board and the rest are
sliding down because there is nothing holding the legs
together. Also the inside shelves are falling because of all the
missing pieces.

MY FIX:
I added a new 2 x 2 between the back legs. This still allows for
the space to be used and holds everything tight together. I
screwed mine in place.
I then replaced the missing boards across the back
that also holds up the cabinet shelves.

Here it is put back together and painted
This antique side board is painted in Annie Sloan Pure White.
It has been lightly edge distressed with 220 grit sand paper
and waxed with clear wax.
