These days there are tons
of choices in pretty knobs
to use in our homes but
what or how do you deal
with the extra long post
they have sticking out of
the back?
Do you love pretty glass and ceramic knobs?
Do you hesitate buying them because of the long post?
There are several different ways to cut off that metal post, but
my tool of choice is a set of mini bolt cutters available from
my local hardware store. This pair pictured below cost approx.
$12. They are a small hand tool that is easy to use on many
different projects.
Alternatives would include an angle grinder, a dremel tool,
or hacksaw. All these tools will cut metal and are available at
your local hardware store. I own all these tools and know how
they work for this job. The grinder is very loud and big, the
dremel can be scary to use but it's effective, and the
hacksaw can cause more damage and usually won't fit in a drawer.
Install the knob and tighten the nut before cutting the post
off with your tool of choice. You can follow up by smoothing
any rough edges with a metal file or heavy sandpaper.
