Here is a list of the steps I took to turned a desk into a pair of nightstands.
BEFORE AFTER
Removed the top - keep it for another project

Make all necessary repairs - plastic drawer glides
can be bought at the home improvement store
Attach new wood pieces for tops - salvage wood
from other unwanted furniture
Remove old hardware for painting - new pieces can be found on-line
Alter the bottom to work with new legs - easier said than done

Install new hardware - fill and sand holes if nessecary
Repeat all steps a second time - this was my chance to get it done right
Paint and wax - I think I am getting the hang of this part
Line drawers - to cover up any stains left inside the drawers from previous use
Photograph your finished pieces
